Rauði krossinn á Íslandi styður trjáræktarátak Alþjóðasambands Rauða krossins og Rauða hálfmánans í Afríku. Stefnt er að því að planta og verja milljarða trjáa næstu 10 árin í samræmi við svæðisbundnar áætlanir. Átakinu er ætlað að stuðla að aðlögun að -og mildun loftslagsbreytinga. Stuðningur Rauða krossinns á Íslandi felst meðal annars í stöðu verkefna- og samhæfingarstjóra átaksins.
Starfið kallar á búsetu í Freetown í Sierra Leone og felur í sér ferðalög um Afríku sunnan Sahara.
Í starfinu fellst meðal annars:
- Samhæfing hinna ýmsu verkefna er falla undir verkefnið, þeirra er standa að því og stofnana sem verkefninu er viðkomandi
- Að veita landsfélögum sem innleiða trjáræktarverkefni í Afríku tæknilegan stuðning

Menntun, reynsla og þekking sem krafist er:
- Háskólagráða sem nýtis verkefninu (Landbúnaði, skógrækt, landgræðsla, fæðiöryggi osfrv.)
- Fimm ára reynsla af trjárækt,endurheimt skóglendis, mildun loftslagsbreytinga og forvörnum í neyðarvörnum / almannavörunum
- Reynsla og þekking á stöðluðu eftirliti og úttektum
- Reynsla af starfi fyrir rauða kross hreyfinguna og af vinnu með landsfélögum

Tree Planting & Care Regional Coordinator – Job description
The Icelandic Red Cross is supporting the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies´s (IFRC or “the Federation”) pan African Tree Planting and Care initiative. The recruitment and provision of the Regional Tree Planting and Care Coordinator are part of the ongoing efforts to support the initiative.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in Africa is embarking on an ambitious strategic direction from 2021 to 2030, focussing IFRC’s resources on large-scale, pan-African initiatives which address the major challenges facing the region. The initiatives aim to build on the extensive experience and expertise of African Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies to achieve real and sustainable change for the most vulnerable people in Africa.
One of the 4 Pan African Key Initiatives is Tree Planting and Care. The IFRC’s contribution to the regional efforts is to contribute to Africa wide climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts through planting and caring for multipurpose trees aligned to continental, Sub-Continental and National plans and strategies. The initiative is targeting to plant and care for 5 billion trees in the next 10 years which will involve planting and caring for 500 million Trees per year.
The Regional Africa Tree Planting and Care Coordinator is responsible for providing robust technical support and coordination in implementing Pan Africa Tree Planting and Care initiative. He/she will actively coordinate, identify funding opportunities, support the drafting of a solid implementation and marketing strategy for coming years, support proposal development with African National Societies and policy and advocacy efforts at various regional forums to increase local financing and policy implementation on forest and land use. He/she will also coordinate and support IFR Country and Cluster Delegations and National Societies in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Pan Africa Tree Planting and Care initiative, operations and country plans related to this initiative.
The Regional Coordinator will be responsible for the following duties:
Coordination of Tree Planting and Care Initiatives
- Ensure robust coordination and collaboration with different Departments/Units, technical leads for integrated technical support in effective implementation and Support Tree Planting and Care Initiatives in an integrated manner
- Participate and contribute to the work of the coordination mechanism and other relevant meetings to promote the Tree Planting and Care initiative and its coordination with other activities
- Coordinate closely with Movement counterparts where related projects are being implemented to ensure a concerted Movement approach on Climate Change issues.
- Coordinate Closely with Private Organisations, UN Bodies, and other stakeholders to support the implementation of Tree Planting and Care initiative in African National Societies.
- Set-up effective coordination and exchange mechanisms on regional level aiming at joint learning, connected initiatives and creation of synergies.
Technical Support to implementation of the initiative by African National Societies
- Provide technical support and guidance to African National societies interested in implementing Tree Planting and Care in Africa – proposal development
- Actively engage with technical peer group of all relevant stakeholders (UNEP, UNCCD, other UN agencies, Africa Union Commission, Regional Economic Communities, Governments, International Organizations, Civil Society Organization, like minded environmental agencies) to promote Tree Planting and Care
- Ensure strong technical support and coordination in planning and implementation of Pan Africa Tree Planting and Care Initiative in Africa by ANS jointly with Country Cluster Delegations.
- Ensure alignment of all Tree Planting and care initiative activities in Africa Region with the regional and global strategies and approaches.
Strategies, Partnerships and Resource Mobilization
- Ensure that clear strategic plan is developed to implement Tree Planting and Care initiative for coming years
- Together with DRM Manager, Africa Regional Office and other stakeholders identify and seek new possibilities and partners to support The Tree Planting and Care Initiative.
- Offer strategic support to Africa Region leadership and management in issues related to Tree Planting and Care Initiative
- Contribute to planning and resource mobilization for Tree Planting and Care.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Work closely with Africa Region Country Cluster Delegations to provide support and guidance to ANSs developing detailed programme documents, work plans, log-frames, baselines, M&E tools.
- Closely follow up and report on Africa Tree Planting and Care initiative progress in Africa Region.
- Prepare and submit regular reports, updates, and other relevant project documents to keep track of the progress made in the implementation of the activities
- Support and give input to regional-level reports
- Develop annual activity and work plans as well as budgets based on expected year-end outputs, ensuring close monitoring of activities and disbursements
Policy and Advocacy
- Advocate for increased local financing for the tree planting and care initiative in local and Regional forums.
- Coordinate the participation of African National Societies in meetings, forums, conferences, and workshops as deemed relevant to promote the RCRC position and ensure adequate communication and coordination with other stakeholders.
- Organise relevant meetings, conferences, and roundtables with the participation of all relevant RCRC stakeholders to share lessons learnt
Position Requirements:
- University degree in relevant sector (Food Security, Livelihoods, Hunger Resilience etc)
- Relevant experience (at least 5 years) in Tree Planning and Care, Climate Change Mitigation an Disaster Risk Reduction in Africa
- Demonstrated experience in evidence-based monitoring and evaluation standards
- Proven interest on national society preparedness issues
- Experience working with national societies
- Experience of working for the Red Cross/Red Crescent (preferred)
- Experience in organization of meetings and conferences
- Proven experience of guiding and managing projects and programs
- Experience in project cycle management (Project writing, Log Frames, Financial management, Reporting, Monitoring and Evaluation)
- Experience in managing communications and advocacy projects
- Experience with donors programming requirements
Knowledge and Skills

Languages
- Fluently spoken and written in English
