Electrical Designer

Borealis Data Center is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented and hands on Electrical Designer to support the development of its critical data center infrastructure.

The Electrical Designer will be responsible for developing electrical designs for new data center projects, expansions, and infrastructure upgrades. The role covers critical power distribution systems and associated electrical infrastructure, with a strong focus on reliability, redundancy, safety, maintainability, and energy efficiency.

Working closely with project managers, engineers, external consultants, contractors, equipment suppliers, and other design disciplines, the Electrical Designer will translate technical and operational requirements into coordinated and constructible design solutions. The successful candidate will bring relevant data center design experience, strong technical capabilities, and a structured approach to multidisciplinary coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical designs for new data centers, expansions, and infrastructure upgrades
  • Design medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems and other critical electrical infrastructure
  • Prepare drawings, single-line diagrams, specifications, calculations, and other technical documentation
  • Support equipment selection and ensure designs meet requirements for capacity, redundancy, reliability, safety, and energy efficiency
  • Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical, structural, architectural, civil, controls, and fire-protection disciplines
  • Participate in design reviews and resolve design conflicts, spatial constraints, and technical interface issues
  • Collaborate with internal teams, consultants, contractors, and suppliers throughout the project lifecycle
  • Provide technical support during procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and site inspections

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or technical qualification in electrical engineering, electrical design, building services engineering, or a related field
  • Relevant experience designing electrical systems and critical power infrastructure for data centers or comparable mission-critical infrastructure
  • Experience using BIM and CAD tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, or Navisworks
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical regulations, technical standards, and requirements for reliability, redundancy, maintainability, and safety
  • Experience coordinating electrical designs across multiple disciplines and project stakeholders
  • Structured and detail-oriented, with strong technical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Hands-on experience applying mechanical designs in construction or operational environments
  • Strong communication skills in English; Icelandic is an advantage
