Manager Decision Engineering

Icelandair Digital & Data is looking for a Manager Decision Engineering to lead a chapter of around 10 data professionals. This is a key leadership role within our Digital Development department, where we are constantly advancing how Icelandair designs, builds, and operates its data capabilities. In this role, you will lead our data platform teams, shape the roadmap, own the backlog, and manage stakeholder alignment, while enabling product teams and business units to unlock the full value of Icelandair’s data. With millions of customers, vast operational data flows, and Iceland’s largest digital business to support, the opportunities to make an impact are endless.

What you will be doing:

• Lead the Decision Engineering Chapter of around 10 professionals, developing Icelandair’s shared data and analytics capabilities.
• Guide the evolution and alignment of data platforms and tooling together with architects and platform teams.
• Act as roadmap and backlog owner for data platform teams, ensuring delivery aligns with business and product needs.
• Ensure high-quality, scalable, and reliable data pipelines that provide trusted data across the organization.
• Support data analysis, emerging data science, and AI initiatives, ensuring platforms, data quality, and governance are ready for advanced use cases.
• Mentor and coach chapter members, fostering professional growth and a culture of collaboration and innovation.

What we are looking for:

• Proven experience leading teams/chapters in data engineering, data science, or data platform development.
• Strong knowledge of modern data platforms and tools, preferably Databricks, Power BI, Kafka/Confluent, and dbt. Familiarity with data access technologies such as GraphQL is a plus.
• Understanding of data warehousing, analytics, and governance practices.
• Experience working in agile, cross-functional environments.
• Ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term data strategy and capability building.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field.
• Excellent collaboration, communication, and coaching skills.
