Hydram Research is hiring: Engineering & Physics

Hydram Rannsoknir designs and builds MW-scale hardware that converts industrial waste heat into valuable steam, cutting fuel use and boosting output in energy-intensive processes. Its clean, large-scale equipment will soon be rolled out and become standard issue at industrial sites globally.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Research Engineering and Modelling
Hands-on and practical engineering role combining simulation, design, and fast prototyping.

Key responsibilities:

  • Simulation and calculations of physics-based systems, thermodynamics and heat-transfer in Python
  • System and component design in Inventor.
  • Building, testing, and iterating physical prototypes
  • Working with control elements and sensor data
  • Idea generation and troubleshooting in real time
Educational and skill requirements

Applicant Background - Ideal candidate:

  • B.Sc. Engineering (Mechanical/Chemical/Aerospace) or Physics
  • Solid understanding of and deep personal interest in classical mechanics, thermodynamics and heat transfer

Experience:

  • Open, from fresh graduates to seasoned industrial veterans
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Experience in programming, especially Python, which we rely on for physics modelling
  • Ability to shift seamlessly between computer-based modelling and
    hands-on assembly

Note, Hydram operates in a specialised corner of applied physics and engineering so we don’t expect anyone to tick every box.

Useful relevant knowledge or experience might include:

Waste heat, heat recovery, heat exchangers, heat pumps, stirling engines, CFD, coolProp, ceramics, steam systems, prototyping, patents, oscillators, precision engineering, hydraulic engineering, choked flow, evaporation, refrigeration,TIG welding, FEA, Isentropic and adiabatic compression.
