Software engineer
Rivvo builds, deploys and operates custom software for Icelandic businesses. Our work spans web applications, APIs, integrations, automation, data infrastructure and AI. With a growing pipeline and opportunities to take on larger projects, we are looking for an experienced software engineer to help shape what comes next.
You will work on software that clients depend on to run their businesses, from the first conversation through design, development, deployment and ongoing operation. The role combines technical work, close collaboration and the opportunity to lead projects.
Alongside client work, we develop products of our own, investing time between client projects in ideas we believe in.
We work closely with Sessor, an operations, finance and IT consultancy, and share a workplace at Vesturvör in Kópavogur. It brings together software development, operations and IT expertise in a lively office.
- Build and ship full-stack software for our clients: web apps, APIs, integrations and automations
- Build data pipelines, integrations and infrastructure that help clients move, organise and use their data for reporting, automation and applications
- Help scope and estimate projects and make technical decisions
- Talk directly with clients, understand how their business works, explain trade-offs in plain language, and help them decide what is worth building
- Contribute ideas to our own products, testing what is useful and building on what shows promise
- Work across a varied stack that includes Postgres, React, Python, TypeScript, C#, Azure, dbt, Terraform, Business Central, Fabric, Foundry and AI tooling
- Help shape how Rivvo works: what we standardise on, how we build, and which tools earn their place
You do not need experience with every tool we use. A strong foundation in software development, experience building web applications and APIs, and a passion for learning are what matter most.
- You are an experienced developer who has designed and built software, then maintained and improved it in production over time. You have seen how your decisions hold up in practice and learned from supporting real users
- You have worked across application layers: user interfaces, backend services and APIs, databases, and deployment. You may be stronger in some areas than others, but you are comfortable following a problem across the whole system
- You can design and build APIs, integrate external systems, and work confidently with SQL and relational databases such as Postgres
- You are comfortable using Git, writing tests, debugging across the stack, and deploying and troubleshooting applications in production
- You are interested in how data moves through systems and want to develop your skills in data engineering, automation and integrations
- You use AI tools regularly in development and explore how they can help you build better software. You review and test what they produce and take responsibility for the result
- You are curious about how AI can help our clients, and interested in practical ways to improve their workflows, automate tasks and solve business problems
- You work well with others, share knowledge and ask for input when it helps. You are also comfortable working independently, taking initiative and moving work forward
- You make practical technical decisions and follow through, balancing code quality with delivery and taking care of the testing, documentation and operational details
- You bring ideas, share your opinions, and are open to changing your mind when someone makes a good case
- You are comfortable talking with clients in Icelandic and English
Whether you already lead client projects or are ready to take that step, you will have support as you get to know our clients and systems.
- Experience with Business Central, Uniconta or another ERP
- Data engineering or BI experience with tools such as Python, dbt and Fabric
- Experience with Azure, GCP or AWS and infrastructure as code, particularly Terraform Experience building applications that use LLMs in production
- Experience with UI and UX design
- Time spent in a consultancy or another client-facing role
- Ownership with support. Take increasing responsibility for your projects, with technical collaboration, support when you need it and the freedom to organise your work
- Room to grow. Deepen your strengths and explore new areas across a variety of projects. As Rivvo grows, you can take on more responsibility and help shape our technical direction
- Investment in your learning. We want you to keep learning and feel inspired by your work. That includes supporting relevant courses, training and opportunities to attend conferences abroad, based on your interests and where you want to grow
- Tools and methods that keep evolving. Help us explore new technologies and improve how we build software. We make room for experiments that help us learn, solve real problems or deliver better results for clients
