Country Manager (Iceland)

The role acts as the on-ground leader for Starbucks’ operations in Iceland, overseeing the overall success and profitability of the company’s business, encompassing strategic planning, brand stewardship, people and resource management and market adaptation. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks’ guiding principles.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Leadership – Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability and modeling how we work together:

  • Develops long-term strategies and plans with the business unit senior leadership team.
  • Collaborates with business unit teams to define, develop, produce and manage the evolution of products, ensuring our Starbucks brand is maintained.
  • Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
  • Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote Starbucks’ key messages and achieve a competitive advantage.
  • Prepares, communicates and educates team on changes in policies and practices within the organization.                                                                                                                               

Planning and Execution - Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution and measuring results.

  • Creates an implementation strategy and plan for scheduling and prioritizing all projects that impact the business unit.  Creates and oversees implementation of new store opening plans.  Consults with regional teams to share best practices.
  • Identifies qualified suppliers who are capable of meeting Starbucks’ business requirements and responsive to rapid changes in business strategies and company growth.
  • Conducts due diligence and financial analysis, contributing to the development of annual operating plan and budget, and quarterly forecast updates.  Identifies trends and forecasts budgets.
  • Plans and manages business unit/department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with Company’s business goals and objectives.
  • Develops labor strategies and plans for the retail stores and ensures that learning programs and initiatives are implemented in accordance with Starbucks’ standards.
  • May manage ongoing relationships with business alliance partners, including measurement of operating performance and delivery of shared business objectives.                                                     

Business Requirements – Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:                       

  • Oversees the day-to-day business activities of the company and assures that transactions executed are consistent with Starbucks’ standards, processes and programs. 
  • Identifies synergies and opportunities for collaboration between regions and functions. 
  • Reviews and provides guidance to cross-functional teams in developing robust and detailed workplans - defining approach, timing and key deliverables are met. 
  • Ensures the effectiveness of operating procedures, communications and programs that impact retail store operations. 
  • Leads strategic planning for the business unit, working with the senior leadership team and other key leaders throughout the company. 
  • Manages communication, coordination and alignment with senior management, regional team, public relations, investor relations and other key stakeholders. Recommends appropriate courses of action and related contingency plans.

 

Partner Development and Training – Providing partners with coaching, feedback and developmental opportunities and building effective teams.

  • Challenges and inspires partners to achieve business results.
  • Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
  • Oversees training and development of partners, and manages and makes effective staffing decisions.
  • Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partner, business, customer and stakeholder results.
Educational and skill requirements
  • 8 years of progressive responsibility in operations management experience in a multi-unit retail food and beverage business.                                                                               
  • At least 5 years experience in leading multi-disciplinary initiatives, including implementation and communications, marketing or market development capabilities.     
  • Bachelor's degree in business/management/marketing with a minimum of 5 years' in a senior management role.
  • Strong communicator, with good leadership capabilities, able to motivate a diverse team to achieve organization goals.
  • Strong business acumen, diplaying a solid know-how of the retail, restaurant or service organization and leading market trends within the region.
  • Skilled negotiator with a high aptitude for decision making and problem solving.
