Lava Master in Vík (South Coast)

We are looking for someone to join our amazing team in Vík (on the South Coast of Iceland) as lava host (at least for the summer but with the possibility of becoming full time). The lava host is the face of our business in Vík, welcomes our visitors, hosts the show with a short intro, answering questions and a live demonstration of real molten lava where the host plays with it. Yes, you read that right. You will get to play with lava!
In addition to welcoming guests and hosting the lava show itself, the lava host answers customer emails and phone calls, works closely with our ambitous lava team, sells lava-related souvenirs, and makes sure our customers leave satisfied and awe-inspired.
We need someone who is enthusiastic about giving our visitors the best experience possible, someone who is charismatic, positive, service-minded, and loves to teach and help people understand the wonders of Iceland. The lava host reports directly to the CEO of Lava Show.
- Hosting the lava show, including welcoming guests, giving a 10 minute introduction at the beginning of the show, manipulating the lava and explaining how it works, answering questions at the end of the show, giving back-stage tours, and generally leaving our visitors satisfied and happy with the warm memories of fantastic customer service and an unforgettable experience.
- Answering customer emails and phone calls
- Work closely with other staff members to provide and ensure the best possible customer experience
- Take an active role in developing, ordering, creating and selling lava-related souvenirs
- Aligning, and maintaining best practices and help evaluate and develop procedures and standards to ensure that work is of a consistently high quality
- Oversee other daily tasks that ensure that everything is working as intended and that customers are happy and satisfied with the whole experience from the moment they first have contact with the company and until they leave.
- Passionate about customer satisfaction and customer service
- Comfortable talking in front of a crowd (in English)
- Excellent English language capabilities (knowing Icelandic is a big plus but not mandatory - so is knowing other languages)
- Education and/or work experience in the field of geology, travel/tourism (e.g. as a guide), teaching, acting or other performance arts is a big plus but not mandatory
- Fascination with lava, volcanoes, and Icelandic geology, history and culture
- A people-person and a happy-go-lucky attitude
- Strong communication skills
