As an HSE Engineer at atNorth, you will serve as a local Subject Matter Expert (SME), trainer, support, and advisor for Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) across atNorth’s datacentre construction projects, with a primary focus on Nordic construction sites.

You will support the implementation of HSE policies and practices to ensure a safe, compliant, and well-controlled working environment for employees, contractors, and partners working at or on behalf of atNorth. The role includes supporting risk assessments, RAMS / Permit to Work, audits, inspections, and reviews; providing practical on-site and remote guidance and training; and driving continuous improvement aligned with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and applicable legal requirements.

The role is empowered to enforce HSE standards, recommend and implement Stop-Work, and drive corrective actions where unsafe conditions or behaviours are identified.

Ideally you are located in Iceland or Denmark and can work on-site from one of the atNorth's locations (Akureyri, Reykjavík, Keflavik, Copenhagen).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recommend and implement Stop-Work actions and escalate HSE issues where necessary to ensure compliance with atNorth standards and legal requirements.

  • Support incident investigations using root cause analysis and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented.

  • Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, safety awareness sessions, and targeted training to ensure workers understand site rules, emergency procedures, and responsibilities.

  • Strengthen emergency preparedness through drills, response planning, and contractor readiness.

  • Ensure compliance with local legal requirements, client standards, and atNorth HSE expectations.

  • Collaborate with project, engineering, and contractor teams to promote a strong safety culture, reduce the likelihood of incidents, and support project delivery.

  • Support KPI and management reporting, including TRI/LTI, high-potential events, audit scores, and environmental KPIs for monthly and quarterly reviews.

  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, training, incidents, and audits; prepare concise reports and insights for management.

  • Provide specialist input to global HSE policies, SOPs, readiness gates, and continuous improvement initiatives.

What We’re Looking For:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum 5 years’ practical HSE experience, including 2+ years in datacentre construction or complex industrial projects.
