In this course, you will take your first confident steps in learning Icelandic.
You will gain a solid foundation in the language and build the confidence to continue learning. We place emphasis on developing a basic vocabulary, comprehension and speaking skills that are useful in everyday life.
About the course
The Icelandic 1 course is tailored for you as a beginner in Icelandic.* The course focuses on building a basic vocabulary for everyday language, in both comprehension and speaking, using a variety of practical methods.
Icelandic 1 is a beginner's course at level A1.1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The course uses a variety of teaching materials and active student participation to ensure effective and enjoyable learning of Icelandic. The course is for students aged 18 and over who want to learn Icelandic. English is used as a lingua franca in the teaching.
The coursebook 'Icelandic for All 1' is used, along with supplementary materials and various digital resources.
Emphasis
- Learn the alphabet, pronunciation and basic vocabulary: You will get a good foundation to continue learning Icelandic.
- We focus on speech therapy and you practise simple and practical sentences.
- All language skills are practised in the Icelandic course: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
- The grammar is presented in a simple way in the context of the subject matter.
- Your skills are assessed at the end of the course and you are given advice on the next steps in your Icelandic studies.
