

Student Support Assistant in the International Department
The International Department of Landakotsskóli is looking for a passionate and committed support assistant to work alongside the special educator working with international secondary teachers to help all our students in grades 6-10 to access our curriculum. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with vulnerable students and have qualifications in counselling, behavioural support or specialist support for students with special needs. They will have excellent spoken English and will be flexible, motivated, enthusiastic and ready to work with students from a diverse variety of backgrounds.
Duties will include: supporting students in class under the guidance of the special education teacher; providing targeted intervention with small groups; supporting students who do not speak English as a first language in accessing the curriculum and intervening to help students who need additional support in meeting behavioural expectations. All our support staff also accompany students (in grades 1-7) to off-site swimming and gym lessons and support in these classes. They are also required to supervise students outside in the yard during recess times.
The role will be an 80% post with the possibility of extending to 100% if the candidate would like to work in our frístund (after school care) programme.

Landakotsskóli is an independent compulsory school for grades 1–10, with an additional department for five-year-olds as well as an after-school program. Around 360 students attend the school, across two departments: an Icelandic department which follows the Icelandic national curriculum and an international department where teaching takes place in English and follows the Cambridge International Curriculum. About 50 teachers with diverse backgrounds work at the school, along with 30 other staff members. We are seeking someone who would thrive in this diverse cultural environment.
