Financial Accountant (Part time)

We are a fast-growing health and wellbeing tech company dedicated to supporting individuals through our Kara ecosystem. With operations in Iceland, Ireland, and remote markets, we are committed to building a culture of care, innovation, and excellence. We seek a Financial Accountant to join our team and play a key role in managing and strengthening Kara Connect’s financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance and effective financial processes across our international entities.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working in a fast-moving startup environment and is comfortable managing the full financial cycle while ensuring strong compliance and financial governance.

Role Overview
The Financial Accountant will be responsible for managing and overseeing all day-to-day financial operations across Kara Connect’s Icelandic and Irish entities.. This includes financial reporting, bookkeeping, invoicing, revenue recognition, payroll coordination, tax compliance and financial controls.
This role is ideal for a highly organised, people focused, and solution oriented individual who thrives in a dynamic, mission-driven startup environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & Accounting

  • Maintain accurate financial records across Iceland, Ireland and the UK entities.

  • Manage the monthly accounting cycle, including journal postings, reconciliations and month-end close processes.

  • Record and recognise revenue in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.

  • Post and manage customer invoices, supplier invoices and operational costs.

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.

  • Perform bank, AP, AR and balance sheet reconciliations.

Billing, Revenue & Cost Management

  • Manage invoicing processes for customers and partners.

  • Ensure accurate booking of revenue and tracking of recurring platform income and usage-based session revenue.

  • Monitor incoming payments and manage accounts receivable.

  • Oversee accounts payable processes, including supplier payments and expense tracking.

  • Maintain cost tracking across company operations and departments.

Payroll, Pensions & Benefits Administration

  • Liaise monthly with external payroll providers across Iceland, Ireland and the UK.

  • Coordinate employee payroll inputs, including salaries, bonuses, commissions and deductions.

  • Work with pension and benefits providers to ensure contributions are accurate and compliant.

  • Review payroll reports for accuracy before processing.

Tax & Regulatory Compliance

  • Prepare and submit VAT returns in relevant jurisdictions.

  • Liaise with tax authorities and regulatory bodies as required.

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with tax regulations across Iceland, Ireland and the UK.

  • Maintain compliance with financial reporting standards and statutory requirements.

  • Support the preparation of annual financial statements and external audits.

Financial Reporting & Controls

  • Produce monthly financial reports for management, including profit & loss, balance sheet and cash flow summaries.

  • Assist leadership with financial analysis and budgeting.

  • Maintain financial controls and ensure adherence to internal financial procedures.

  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and systems.

Stakeholder & External Liaison

  • Act as the main finance contact for external accountants, auditors and advisors.

  • Liaise with banks, payment providers and financial institutions as needed.

  • Support management with financial information required for fundraising, grants or investor reporting.

Qualifications & Experience

- Qualified Financial Accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent).
- 3–5+ years of accounting or finance experience.
- Experience managing finance functions across multiple jurisdictions is desirable.
- Familiarity with usage-based and subscription-based revenue models is an advantage.
- Experience working in a startup or high-growth environment is preferred.

Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Experience managing VAT and regulatory compliance.
- Close attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of the finance function.
- Strong technical aptitude with a demonstrated interest in automating financial processes and improving operational efficiency through systems and tools, working collaboratively with the Kara Connect team to streamline workflows.
- Strong communication skills and ability to liaise with external providers and internal teams.
- Proficiency with accounting software and financial systems.
