Teacher of English and Sociology in the International Department (English medium)

Teacher of English and Sociology

The International Department of Landakotsskóli is seeking a qualified and experienced teacher of English and Sociology to teach in our secondary department (students aged 11-16) where students learn through the medium of English.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified teacher who has native speaker level English and has experience in preparing students for exams.

The position is initially for one year and subject to a three-month probationary period. The position may become permanent after the first year. The ideal candidate will work 100% but it may be possible to offer part time hours if necessary.

About Landakotsskóli

Landakotsskóli is built on a strong foundation and rich tradition while also looking to the future through purposeful school development and innovation. The school is an independent compulsory school governed by a board and serves grades 1–10, as well as a department for five-year-old children and an after-school program.

The school has approximately 360 students in two departments:

· General department that follows the Icelandic National Curriculum (Aðalnámskrá), where instruction is in Icelandic

· International department that follows the Cambridge curriculum, where instruction is in English

The school employs approximately 50 teachers and 30 other staff members. The school community is diverse and international, and is characterized by a positive working environment, ambition, and a strong sense of teamwork.

Strong emphasis is placed on arts education and creative work across subjects, alongside rigorous teaching in core subjects including English, mathematics, science and humanities. Communication, collaboration, creativity, forward thinking, and well-being are guiding principles in the school’s work. The school’s goal is to help students grow and thrive, prepare them to shape their own future, and become active participants in society.
