MRO & CAPEX Director

We are seeking for experienced and proactive MRO & CAPEX Director to lead and execute Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) and Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) projects, with a strong focus on purchasing the necessary equipment. This role will be key in collaborating with our R&D, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to support project execution and drive procurement improvements across the organization.

As the Procurement Department is under development, the successful candidate will play a critical role in helping to establish and structure the function effectively. Strong communication and engagement skills are essential to work through existing challenges that require convincing in R&D and Manufacturing teams. The role requires the ability to challenge demands, persuade stakeholders to consider alternative vendors, and manage additional indirect procurement categories as needed.

This role is based in Reykjavik, Iceland.

  • Lead and manage MRO and CAPEX projects, ensuring effective procurement of necessary equipment and services. 

  • Collaborate closely with R&D, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to understand their requirements and ensure alignment in project execution. 

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies, processes, and systems to build a structured and efficient procurement function. 

  • Address and overcome resistance from internal departments, fostering a collaborative environment through strong communication and relationship-building skills. 

  • Challenge current vendor choices and drive vendor switching initiatives when necessary, ensuring optimal services, cost and performance. 

  • Identify and manage indirect procurement categories as needed to support overall procurement goals. 

  • Secure firm contracts and increase the spending coverage to a min of 85%. 

  • Provide input and recommendations for procurement policies, vendor contracts, and negotiation strategies. 

  • Ensure that all procurement activities align with the company’s goals for cost efficiency, product quality, and long-term operational success. 

  • Monitor and report on project progress, budgeting, and timelines, maintaining accountability for successful outcomes. 

Menntunar- og hæfniskröfur
  • Proven experience in leading MRO & CAPEX projects and procurement, ideally within a manufacturing or engineering environment. 

  • Strong understanding of R&D, Engineering, and Manufacturing processes. 

  • Experience in developing and structuring procurement functions, preferably in environments where the procurement department is newly established or undergoing transformation. 

  • Excellent communication, persuasion and strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and overcome resistance. 

  • Strong negotiation skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage vendor relationships and drive strategic vendor switching when necessary. 

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and indirect procurement categories effectively. 

  • Bachelor's degree in related field (Master's preferred). 

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
