Machine Learning Engineer
About GreenFish
GreenFish is a fast-growing Icelandic AI company with offices in Reykjavík and Copenhagen, providing reliable and accurate predictive tools for the fishing sector.
We develop machine learning models that predict fishing conditions several days ahead, built on large volumes of data from a variety of sources. Our predictions help clients spend less time fishing, burn less fuel, and get more value from every trip, with a smaller climate footprint as a result.
About the Role
You will be working with data, and large volumes of it. We work with geospatial, satellite, and operational datasets that need to be understood, processed, and turned into models that run reliably in production. That all happens in our cloud infrastructure, so you'll be using it daily: building pipelines, training models, and keeping predictions live.
You own projects end to end. That starts with understanding the problem together with the client, continues through analysis and modelling, and ends with a model in production that you follow up on. We're a small team and we steer the ship together, but you own the execution, and you will shape the product and architecture.
What You'll Do
-
Explore and analyse large, real-world datasets
-
Build, evaluate, and improve machine learning models, from feature pipelines through training workflows to validation and testing
-
Meet with clients to understand their operations and translate their needs into concrete modelling requirements
-
Monitor and maintain models in production, ensuring they stay accurate as conditions change
-
Help shape GreenFish's product direction and technical architecture
Requirements
-
3+ years of industry experience in machine learning, data science, or a similar technical role
-
Hands-on experience building, evaluating, and maintaining machine learning models
-
Experience working with large datasets and cloud computing
-
Strong Python and data analysis skills
-
Clear communication skills and confidence working directly with clients
-
Pragmatism: the ability to turn unclear, real-world problems into concrete modelling approaches
-
The ability to quickly gain deep technical understanding of new domains
What Sets You Apart
-
Experience with HPC clusters
-
Experience working with multidimensional Earth observation data
-
Knowledge of oceanographic data or experience working in oceanography
-
Knowledge of the fishing sector, whether that's fisheries, vessels, or the fish themselves
Logistics
-
Location: Reykjavík, Iceland (on-site)
-
Employment type: Full-time, starting as soon as possible
