Head of Warehouses - Alvotech

Head of Warehouses is responsible for leading warehouse operations in Iceland, including internal sites and external partners. It focuses on safe, compliant, and efficient operations, strong people leadership, GMP/GDP and EHS compliance, performance management, cost control, operational excellence, and long-term warehouse capacity planning.

Key responsibilities:

  • Leads the warehousing organization in Iceland and sets operational strategy, priorities and governance for safe, compliant and efficient operations.
  • Owns budget planning and cost control for the function; drives productivity, waste reduction and resource optimization.
  • Interprets and implements corporate/site policies and regulatory requirements; ensures inspection readiness and robust execution of SOPs.
  • Leads and develops managers and teams; accountable for hire-to-retire people processes, capability building, succession and performance management.
  • Partners with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, EHS and IT to remove constraints, manage escalations and deliver improvements.

Education

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in:
    • Supply Chain Management
    • Logistics
    • Operations Management
    • Engineering
    • Business Administration
    • Life Sciences or related field

Preferred

  • Master's degree (MBA, Supply Chain, Operations Management, Engineering, or related field)
  • Relevant certifications such as:
    • APICS/ASCM (CPIM, CSCP)
    • Lean Six Sigma
    • GDP/GMP training certifications
    • Project Management certifications (PMP, PRINCE2)

Experience

Typically 10+ years of relevant experience, including:

Warehouse & Logistics Operations

  • Extensive experience managing warehouse operations in a regulated environment.
  • Experience with inventory management, material flow, receiving, storage, and distribution processes.
  • Experience overseeing third-party logistics providers (3PLs) and external warehouse partners.
  • Knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP systems (SAP preferred), and inventory control processes.

Pharmaceutical / Biotechnology Industry

  • Strong understanding of:
    • GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice)
    • GDP (Good Distribution Practice)
    • GxP requirements
    • Regulatory inspections and audit readiness
  • Experience supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing or supply chain operations.

Leadership Experience

  • Proven experience leading managers and large operational teams.
  • Strong track record in:
    • Performance management
    • Talent development
    • Succession planning
    • Employee engagement
    • Organizational change management
  • Experience managing across multiple warehouse locations or complex operations is highly desirable.

Operational Excellence

  • Demonstrated success driving:
    • Process improvements
    • Productivity initiatives
    • Cost reduction programs
    • Resource optimization
    • Capacity planning
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement experience preferred.

Financial & Strategic Management

  • Budget ownership and cost control responsibility.
  • Experience developing operational strategies and long-term capacity plans.
  • Ability to balance service, compliance, quality, and cost objectives.
