

Head Guide
The Head Guide supports the Guide Operations Manager in leading and delivering the outdoor activities and adventures for lodge guests at Deplar Farm. The position is responsible for ensuring every activity meets the highest standards of safety, enjoyment, and operational efficiency, and for keeping equipment and logistics in good order. The Head Guide guides activities directly, oversees daily logistics, and maintains all activity equipment. The position also supports the Guide Operations Manager with guide team training, scheduling, and administration. The work is hands-on and seasonal, and it requires close coordination with the Guide Operations Manager, the Experience team, the Lodge team, and the Guide team to plan and execute activities that exceed guest expectations. The position reports to the Guide Operations Manager and demands strong leadership, proven guiding experience, clear communication, and proficiency in equipment management, along with working knowledge of mountain sports and watersports. The role calls for professionalism, a willingness to work as part of the team, and readiness to take on the range of tasks that support lodge operations.
Guest Experience

Apply sound judgment to every proposed activity, with safety as the deciding factor at all times.

Deliver guided activities and high quality service in line with the operational vision of the Deplar Farm activity product, meeting or exceeding the expectations of both operations and guests at all times.

Help coordinate guest transportation to and from activities.
Team Leadership and Scheduling

When directed by the Guide Operations Manager, lead guide team meetings to set daily plans and align the team on execution within the limits of safety and financial reason.

When directed by the Guide Operations Manager, oversee and execute daily activity logistics, coordinating with the guides, the Experience Managers, and the culinary team.

Support the Guide Operations Manager in training new members of the guide team.

Provide feedback, support, accountability, and discipline to the guide team as needed.

Set the example for professional appearance and punctual attendance, and hold the team to the same standard.

Help the Guide Operations Manager oversee the department schedule, minimizing overtime and ensuring the team follows scheduled shift times.

When available, contribute departmental labor and personally take on any task or chore needed to support lodge operations, regardless of department.
Equipment and Logistics

Share responsibility for the care, maintenance, cleanliness, and operability of all activity equipment to industry standards and health and safety regulations.

Collaborate with the Guide Operations Manager on resupplying and ordering replacement equipment and parts.

Help the Guide Operations Manager acquire, distribute, resupply, and track guide uniforms.

Keep all guide vehicles clean inside and out.

Maintain the security of equipment against loss or theft.
Administration and Cost Control

Support the Guide Operations Manager with administration tied to guide operations.

Monitor and report to the Guide Operations Manager any incremental costs related to fuel, food, and equipment loss.
Required

Fluent in English.

Wilderness First Aid qualification.

Guiding experience, with working knowledge of mountain sports, watersports, and general gear maintenance.

Strong communication and leadership skills.

The ability to work well with others under pressure.
