Financial Controller

Our client is a rapidly-expanding, international PE-backed Telecommunications Group who is looking to hire a commercially focused Financial Controller to drive strategic and operational success.

Reporting to the Group CFO in the UK, the Financial Controller will lead the finance function in Iceland with significant responsibility for shaping and executing financial decisions, processes, and controls, as the organisation strives towards its high growth international expansion plans.

Working closely with the CFO and senior leadership, the Financial Controller will have the potential to significantly impact the company's financial strategy during this period of transformation and growth as well as building and shaping the local finance function.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities for the Financial Controller include:

Financial Reporting & Control: Oversee financial reporting, controls, and month-end close processes in line with international standards. 

·   Team Leadership: Lead and manage the local finance team

B Business Partnering: Collaborate closely with operational and commercial teams, providing strategic financial insight and business support. 

·  System Implementation: Work on the implementation of new financial systems, ensuring the infrastructure and processes can support future growth. 

·  Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A): Drive budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning for the business, particularly in relation to the expansion in Iceland. 

·  Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the financial partner to key internal stakeholders, including the CFO, senior leadership, and external stakeholders. 

· Compliance & Tax: Manage tax authorities, ensure compliance with local regulations, and navigate complex supplier agreements.

GGrowth Management: Help manage and report on the organisation’s growth trajectory, ensuring financial resilience and identifying areas for cost optimisation.

Educational and skill requirements

Suitable candidates for the Financial Controller position should have:

·        Professional Accountancy Qualification: Minimum 5+ years post-qualification experience (PQE), ideally in a similar commercial financial role within a high-growth or international company. 

·        Industry Experience: Ideally, candidates will have experience within telecommunications or related sectors.

·        International Exposure: Experience working with international teams and managing financial functions across multiple jurisdictions is highly desirable. 

·        Icelandic Language: Knowledge of the Icelandic language is essential for engaging with local stakeholders. 

·        Hands-on Management: Must be comfortable in a hands-on role, including building and developing teams while driving change within a growing business. 

·        Systems Implementation: Experience in implementing financial systems and driving process improvements is desirable. 

Customer Engagements: Proven ability to manage complex supplier relationships, particularly related to client contracts and supplier engagements.
