Chief of Project Execution

We are looking for a results-driven leader who is passionate about making a real impact on climate recovery. The right person for the role has global leadership experience and an ambition to participate in driving our international growth.
The Project Execution division manages a portfolio of international projects of various scales and complexity. Coda Terminal, located in Iceland, is our largest project under development and is backed by substantial funding from the EU Innovation Fund. The Coda Terminal will build a value chain connecting geological storage sites in Iceland with CO2 capture facilities in N-Europe through transport by tankers.
The Chief of Project Execution will play a key role in shaping and implementing the strategy, vision, and priorities for the division. You are responsible for leading the team in managing carbon mineralization infrastructure projects from design phase to financial investment decision (FID), followed by construction and commissioning phases to handover to commercial operations. That entails output optimization, performance monitoring, financial planning and management of risk and compliance. We foster and champion a unified team spirit and collective accountability within the division and across the organization, with cross-functional collaboration being engrained in our ways of working together with a diverse, inclusive, and supportive culture. The leader is responsible for supporting that culture and building an engaged, high-performing team.
The position is located on site at Carbfix HQ, Reykjavík, Iceland.
Main responsibilities
 
  • Lead a culture of disciplined, structured Project Management practices, in line with international standards to ensure successful project completion and benefit realization within time and budget.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for the division to drive value creation for the company, shareholders, and climate in close collaboration with extended leadership team.
  • Proactively monitor the performance and output of the division to drive results and growth. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align efforts and streamline processes. Implement best practices to enhance quality, scalability, and time-to-market.
  • Identify and manage risks associated with projects (e.g., technical, health and safety, quality).
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build a high performing team of focused and fearless team players, striving to make a positive impact.
Skills and Attributes
 
  • Graduate level university degree in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Business Administration).
  • Project Management Certification is considered an advantage (e.g., PMP).
  • Proven leadership experience in a global environment supporting subject matter experts in leveraging their strengths and expertise.
  • Proven experience in Project Management, with a track record of successfully completed large-scale infrastructure projects. Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and influence both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong business sense and the ability to align strategies with overall organizational goals and objectives.
  • Experience with project financing support pre-close and ensuring compliance with documents/requirements during project phase.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Familiarity of carbon capture and storage or related industry standards is advantageous.
