Backend Software Developer

Aftra is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution and a spin-off from the cybersecurity company Syndis. Aftra simulates hacker methodologies to help companies and institutions understand their attack surface and defend against cyberattacks and hackers. At Aftra, we have a diverse team of experts, and you will join a fun and ambitious team.

As a Backend Software Developer, you will be responsible for building and maintaining the core systems that power Aftra’s SaaS solutions. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on mission-critical backend services in a collaborative environment that values initiative, continuous learning, and growth.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend systems and APIs for our SaaS platform.

• Implement scalable, high-performance services primarily using Python. Our codebase also includes Go, Rust and Typescript.

• Leverage AWS technologies (Lambda, DynamoDB, OpenSearch, SQS, SNS, ECS, and we could go on) and Terraform to build and provision cloud-native applications.

• Ensure high-quality code through automated testing and code reviews.

• Troubleshoot, optimize, and enhance the performance of our existing services.

• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the platform and the team’s development processes.

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in Python with hands-on experience in building backend systems; familiarity with Terraform, Go, Rust or Typescript is a plus.

• Knowledge of software development best practices (e.g., version control, CI/CD, automated testing).

• Experience with AWS services, particularly Lambda and DynamoDB.

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Experience in a microservice architecture is a plus (although we don’t believe in full-on microservices architecture - we can go into it later).

• Working well individually, getting stuff over the line to "done".

• Working well in a team: collaborating across divisions to come up with solutions that delight.

• An interest and/or experience working in web/application security.
