Technical Support Engineer

We are looking for a hands-on Technical Support Engineer who enjoys working across tech support, Linux systems, and production infrastructure to join our VFX studio in Reykjavík.

The role focuses on supporting artists, Linux workstations, render farm nodes, remote workflows, and the technical systems used in daily production.
It is a varied and practical position, combining day-to-day support with troubleshooting, documentation, hardware maintenance, and infrastructure support.

The position is on-site in Reykjavík and starts as a fixed-term six-month contract, with the possibility of extension. This role would suit someone with a few years' experience or a recent graduate.

Main tasks and responsibilities
  • Support artists day-to-day —troubleshoot Linux environments, permissions, DCC software, accounts, licenses, and shared storage.
  • Set up, deploy, and maintain Linux workstations, peripherals, render nodes, servers and studio hardware
  • Keep remote artists productive by addressing issues with VPN, remote desktop (NICE DCV, NoMachine, xrdp), authentication, and access.
  • Assist with testing and deployment of pipeline and production tool updates
  • Reproduce and document artist-reported technical issues for developers
  • Write Python and shell scripts to automate recurring tasks and improve operations
  • Contribute to Ansible workflows, internal runbooks, notes, and troubleshooting documentation
  • Provide backup coverage for day-to-day IT operations
  • Participate in occasional after-hours support during production peaks when needed
Educational and skill requirements
  • Working knowledge of Linux — filesystems, permissions, processes, log files, kernel and driver updates
  • Hands-on experience with hardware troubleshooting and workstation setup
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals — IP, DNS, routing, and troubleshooting connectivity issues
  • Working knowledge of Python
  • Structured and calm approach to troubleshooting
  • Willingness to document solutions and improve repeatable processes

Additional Experience Considered an Advantage

  • Experience from VFX, animation, post-production, games, broadcast, or a similar technical production environment
  • Experience with Deadline, OpenCue, or another render manager
  • Experience with NVIDIA drivers on Linux
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise networking — Cisco environment a plus
  • Software development experience and QA testing
  • Experience with Ansible, Git, CI/CD, Docker, Podman, or similar tools
  • Experience with Zabbix, Graylog, or similar monitoring/logging tools
  • Familiarity with AYON or other VFX pipeline systems
  • Experience supporting mixed Linux and Windows environments
